Region

  • Maternal Health: A. It is estimated that in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, more than 800,000 women will give birth in 2015. Without lifesaving emergency obstetric care, more than 120,000 of these could face complications that might be lifethreatening to them and/or their babies. With reduced access to voluntary family planning services, women and adolescent girls are at increased risk of unplanned pregnancies (IASC, 01/02/2015)

  • economic growth in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone in 2015. That equals approximately 12% of GDP (The World Bank, 12/02/2015).

  • Spread of the disease: Total weekly case incidence increased for the second consecutive week, with 144 new confirmed cases reported in the week to 8 February (WHO, 11/02/2015).

  • Number of cases: 23,182 cumulative reported cases across the region, including 9,353 deaths, as of 14 February (WHO, 16/02/2015).
