The WHO has classified Togo as a ‘border country’ of epidemic - affected countries because of the air traffic with Asky Airlines, whose hub is based in Lomé. Asky operates across 23 West and Central countries.
An isolation centre has been identified and equipped in the University Hospital of Lomé. Five other sites are identified in the other 5 regions. But not yet equipped. The health staff were trained.
A free help line has been set up to that anyone can call and find information or advice regarding EVD
The national coordination committee meeting was launched on August 20, 2014 with 6 technical sub - committees be ing set up.
A WHO expert supported the Government to assess the level of preparedness. Strengths and weaknesses were pointed out for each level of action.
UNICEF just signed a project cooperation agreement with the Togolese Red Cross to strengthen preventive actions in all strategic areas: border entry points, main international bus stations.
A special EVD emergency task force is active within the UNICEF CO and a focal point has been designated.
Ebola
2 suspected cases: a young Togolese woman coming back from Sierra Leone by air; and a Filipino in transit in Togo coming from Nigeria by boat. Both cases were confirmed negative o n August 21, 2014.
