As the World Health Organization declares the Ebola Outbreak a ‘public health emergency of international concern’, HPIC is working through its partners to send much needed medical supplies and medicines to Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone.
As of August 4, 2014, these West African countries have reported 1848 cases, including 1013 deaths. This is currently the largest outbreak of the disease ever recorded.
While there is no vaccine or cure for this disease, much can be done to prevent its spread and provide care to those who are currently suffering. One of HPIC’s partners, PLAN Canada, has been providing support to health workers in West Africa by providing medicines, supplies, and training in effective infection control procedures. They have also been holding community awareness sessions and setting up hand-washing stations in public areas.
Another one of HPIC’s partners, International Medical Corps (IMC), has been active in launching outreach and education campaigns to help communities stop the spread of the disease, while also support the delivery of urgently needed medical supplies in cooperation with the local Ministries of Health.
HPIC has already sent one shipment of supplies and medicines with PLAN Canada to Guinea, but further support is urgently needed. Additional shipments of medicines and medical supplies can be sent to help the people of West Africa with your support. Your donation to HPIC’s Emergency Response Fund helps to ensure that lifesaving medicines and supplies are delivered to those who need it most.
