CAMEROON

18 KILLED IN CROSS BORDER INSURGENCY CLASHES

On 24 July, Boko Haram insurgents reported attacked a Cameroonian military base in Balgaram (Extreme North) killing two. On 27 July, the group also reportedly committed two attacks in Kolofata, killing at least 16 people.

CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC (CAR)

400 FEWER IDPS, USD$7 MILLION HUMANITARIAN FUND ALLOCATED

As of 22 July, there are estimated 528,400 IDPs in CAR, reflecting a slight increase of 400 IDPs in Bangui as compared to last week. The Common Humanitarian Fund (CHF) announced an allocation of USD$7 million for life-saving activities for IDPs, host-communities, migrants and returnees and for the protection of vulnerable people and the support of the return process. This is the third CHF allocation this year.

NIGERIA

56 KILLED IN 4 ATTACKS BY INSURGENTS IN NORTHEAST

On 24, 27, 28, and 29 July suspected Boko Haram insurgents committed attacks in Borno Adamawa state, and Yobe states, killing an estimated 56 people, displacing an unspecified number of persons to Adamawa’s state capital, Yola, and destroying a key access bridge in Yobe State.

119 KILLED IN 6 BOMBINGS IN KANO AND KADUNA

On 23, 24, 27 and 28 July, six bombings in Kano and Kaduna killed 119 people. National and State Emergency Management Agencies are evacuating the wounded and dead.

50 HOMES DESTOYED, 500 PERSONS DISPLACED BY FLOODS IN SOKOTO

On 26 July, floods destroyed 50 houses and 65 farmlands in Sokoto State following an overflow of the Kalmalo river. Some 500 persons are affected and taking refuge at a school.

18,940 NEW IDPS IN TARABA DUE TO INTER-COMMUNAL VIOLENCE

The Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) reports that recent intercommunal clashes has led to 18,940 newly displaced persons. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Taraba SEMA, and Christian Aid have responded with 3-month food rations and Non-Food Items for affected persons.

REGIONAL: EBOLA

1,201 EBOLA CASES, 672 DEATHS, NIGERIA CASE CONFIRMED, HIGH LEVEL EMERGENCY DECLARED

As of 23 July, the cumulative Ebola caseload in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea is 1,201, including 672 deaths. On 24 July, the first Ebola case in Nigeria was confirmed carried by a traveler from Monrovia to Lagos. National authorities have identified and isolated some 59 persons with whom the victim had contact prior to his death. On 26 July, Sierra Leone confirmed its first Ebola case in the capital, Freetown. In Guinea, the number of new hospitalized confirmed cases has increased from 1 to 21 between 21-26 July, following a period of no new cases as reported last week. On 26 July, WHO’s Director General upgraded the Ebola response in West Africa to a Grade 3, the highest level of emergency response. On 29 July, Liberia closed its borders with the exception of major entry points and the airport. One commercial airline has suspended all fights from Sierra Leone and Liberia to Nigeria.
