Total number of contacts listed is 1308: Kailahun (637), Kenema (425), Port Loko (52), Kambia (10), Bo (79), Bombali (24) and Western Area (66). 421 have completed 21 days and are dropped off from follow up.
UNICEF staff from sections involved in response to Ebola (Health, Social Mobilization, Child Protection, WASH and Logistics/Supplies) participated in a two days meeting (17th and 18th July 2014) organized by Ministry of Health and Sanitation in collaboration with WHO to develop an Operational Plan for Accelerated Response to Ebola Virus Disease based on the Accra strategy for Accelerated EVD outbreak.
On 16th-17th July 2014, UNICEF trained 30 Journalists and 15 staff from 117 (Sierra Leone National Emergency Call Center) and Environmental health providers in Freetown on Comprehensive Introductory training on Ebola, Psychosocial support and Behaviour Change theory.
During 14th-18th July 2014, UNICEF in collaboration with Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children Affairs (MSWGCA) and Save the Children completed the rapid needs assessment on Child Protection in Kailahun district to determine needs of children impacted by Ebola, about 32 children have so far been listed in Kailahun district and the assessment is now conducted in Kenema.
UNICEF will support the Western area Social Mobilization team to conduct an intensive awareness campaign on Ebola in Freetown through public address system in the week of 21st- 26th July 2014,
Since the beginning of Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, UNICEF has received a total amount of USD 331,248 which includes; $200,000 (OFDA) and $131,248 (Programmable $122,660) – CERF. All these amounts have been fully utilized. The current gap is estimated at 2.4 million.
UNICEF is consolidating a three months sectoral emergency funding appeal for five pillars (including: Social Mobilization, Surveillance and Contact tracing, Supplies and Logistics, WASH and Child Protection) which amounts to approximately USD 2,400,000.
