According to the Government of Sierra Leone, the cumulative number of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) cases is 8,463, with 3,289 deaths as of 10 March 2015. During the past week there were 80 new confirmed cases of EVD.
In response to the outbreak in Rosanda Village in Bombali District, UNICEF has supported the District Health Management Team (DHMT) in the set-up of a temporary Peripheral Health Unit (PHU) for care of non-EVD cases including pregnant women and children from the quarantined village.
During and following the process of select Community Care Centres (CCC) decommissioning, discussions are being held with the community under the leadership of the DHMT regarding utilization of remaining resources from the decommissioned CCC to strengthen local health systems.
Intensified efforts around preparations for back to school continues, with multisectoral involvement including Education, Social Mobilization, Supply and Logistics, Health, and WASH in order to prepare for the safe reopening of schools.
UNICEF Sierra Leone requires USD 178 million for its response to the Ebola crisis until end of June 2015. To date, USD 125.9 million has been received – 70 percent of the total.
