Situation
• As of 23 February, WHO reported a total (confirmed, probable, and suspected) of 23,539 cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the three most affected countries (Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea) along with 9,541 reported deaths.
• Transmission in Sierra Leone has declined but remains widespread, and in Guinea there was an increase during the last weeks. Case incidence in Liberia remains low.
• All affected countries still face considerable challenges in order to 'get to zero. Desire and decisions to normalise life and enter into recovery / post EVD phase are meanwhile increasingly noted, such as Liberia’s reopening of its borders and lifting of the national curfew on 22 February.
• The EU is organizing a High Level Conference on Ebola on 3 March in Brussels. The focus of the conference is on ‘getting to zero’, bringing in recovery actions and also includes a medical health part.
