ARLINGTON, VA – IRD, which has provided medical supplies to local partners in Sierra Leone and Liberia assisting those suffering from Ebola, is partnering with Peace Builders, Medshare and The Village Link to transport additional medical aid to Sierra Leone. IRD regularly coordinates the transport of medical and other humanitarian aid to vulnerable people in countries around the world.
The 40-foot ocean freight container includes oral rehydration supplies, protective gear, surgical equipment and other desperately needed Ebola supplies. In addition to the medical aid, one hundred cell phones will be included in the shipment for use with an app developed by Palo Alto-based JourneyApps. The app will enable ChildFund International to track and manage the distribution of medical aid to 13 community-based medical facilities in Sierra Leone.
“We will continue to work with committed partners to transport medical aid to assist vulnerable people suffering from Ebola,” said Jim Lanning, Director of Acquisitions and Logistics at IRD. “Long-term investment in the health, education and economic advancement of local communities in Sierra Leone and throughout Africa will advance the development of the entire international community.”
