REGIONAL OVERVIEW
Guinea and Liberia are the two countries where the Ebola virus has been detected. As of today, 125 people have died as a consequence of the virus (112 in Guinea and 13 in Liberia). In Sierra Leone and Cote d'Ivoire there have been some suspected cases that are under investigation. Adults are more at risks of Ebola, especially those who have be in close contact with infected individuals, such as health workers.
UNICEF is working closely with partners, Ministries of Health and the Red Cross, to prevention and emergency preparedness activities across the subregion.
UNICEF continues to work closely with Governmental counterparts in the response to the outbreak in Guinea and neighboring countries. Concrete actions include the provision of essential medicines, disinfectants, family hygiene kits, supplies and equipment. Extensive work has been done on Communication for Development (C4D) activities and community-level prevention campaigns.
