REGIONAL OVERVIEW
The Ebola virus has been detected and confirmed in Guinea and Liberia. So far 111 deaths have been reported in these two countries (101 in Guinea and 10 in Liberia). There has been suspected cases in Sierra Leone and Mali; confirmation of these cases is ongoing.
Ebola primarily affects adults, and in particular, those who have sustained contact with other infected individuals, such as health workers.
UNICEF is working closely with partners, including Ministries of Health and the Red Cross, to carry out prevention and emergency preparedness activities across the subregion.
UNICEF supports Governments’ response to the outbreak in Guinea and neighboring countries with the provision of essential medicines, disinfectants, family hygiene kits, supplies and equipment, and is supporting Communication for Development (C4D) media and door-to-door activities for prevention and response efforts.
