Highlight — Sierra Leone: food distribution in Sherbro and Turtle Islands
WFP and the UK coordinated the use of British military assets to dispatch WFP food parcels from Freetown to 15 remote locations around Sherbro and Turtle Islands. The response comes at request of the National Ebola Response Center (NERC) and follows a WFP/UK rapid assessment to the islands which have been blocked from regular trade with neighbouring Moyamba and Bombali due to ebola measures and the closure of coastal markets. WFP and World Vision aim to target the most affected, and food positioned will provide one month rations for 3,200 households.
WFP, through the Logistics Cluster, coordinated the response with the UK. The loading of the vessel took place on 05 December and air movements for distribution commenced on 07 December.
