UNHRD has helped the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) response to an ebola virus outbreak in West Africa by delivering their protective equipment from the UNHRD depot in Dubai. Gloves, masks and other infectious control gear arrived in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia last week, following confirmed cases of the virus in Guinea. WHO immediately started distributing them to health facilities dealing with the outbreak.
Ebola virus outbreaks have a case fatality rate of up to 90%. As there is no treatment available, prevention is the most effective way to stop the transmission.
The protective items were prepositioned in UNHRD’s Dubai depot which meant the stock could be accessed immediately and sent to West Africa faster.
