Regional Outbreak
Reported Cases: As of 28 November, the total cumulative number of reported cases across the region had reached 16,899, including 5,987 deaths (WHO, 01/12/2014).
Projection: FEWS NET has updated its planning figure to 40,000 to 100,000 cumulative Ebola cases in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone by late January 2015 (FEWSNET, 27/11/2014).
Food security: Rural areas have been more affected than urban areas (WFP, 27/11/2014). Very poor households are expected to face at least Stressed food insecurity level, IPC Phase 2, until September 2015. Crisis food insecurity level, IPC Phase 3, may be reached in June 2015 (FEWSNET, 27/11/2014).
Food production: The main rice harvest is still ongoing throughout the region. Crop production levels are generally reported to be average (FEWSNET, 27/11/2014).
Mali: Eight cases, including six facilities, have been reported in Mali (WHO, 26/11/2014).
Response: On 27 November, Germany introduced a special aircraft to evacuate Ebola patients (international media, 27/11/2014).
