Liberia: Ethiopia to deploy volunteers to Ebola-hit countries within 2 weeks

Addis Ababa November 26/2014 - The 210 health professionals, whom Ethiopia has pledged to send to Ebola-affected countries will be deployed to those countries within the coming two weeks, the Ministry of Health said.

In a press briefing held here yesterday, Public Health Emergency of Adviser to the Minister Dr. Marawi Argaw said the professionals have got adequate training that will enable them undertake their activities effectively.

The professionals will also receive additional training before they start their mission.

He indicated that the volunteer health professionals will stay in those countries for three months.

Medical doctors, nurses, field epidemiologists, environmental health, psychiatrists, psychologists and public health specialists are among the volunteers, PR and Communications Director Ahmed Imano said.

Ethiopia has pledged to deploy 210 health professionals to the affected areas and provide half a million USD as a response to the AU efforts to fight the epidemic that costs the life of close to 5,000 people and infected nearly 14,000.
