Highlights
• As of 17 November, the cumulative number of confirmed and probable cases of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Sierra Leone has reached 5,970 with a total of 1,233 deaths.
• In a joint effort from the Government, WHO, UNICEF and partners, the rollout of Community Care Centres (CCCs) is taking up speed with 4 operational in Port Loko, 1 in Koinadugu, and 10 in Bombali. More will be built shortly in Tonkolili and other districts.
• So far, over 3,500 children have been affected by EVD (infected, quarantined, orphaned, unaccompanied). Partners are intensifying family tracing and reunification processes.
• UNMEER is scaling up its presence at the district level by deploying UN Field Crisis Managers and Information Management Officers to the hotspot districts, in support of the Government’s response.
• 600 religious leaders were trained in the Western area with a special focus on safe and dignified burials, early referral of cases, and respect for survivors and health workers.
