In numbers

To date, in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone:

  • 13,125 mt of food delivered to 776,000 people since April 2014*;

  • 1,130 responders transported by UNHAS, with two planes and one helicopter in operation; and

  • 7,718 m3 of medical cargo transported.

Highlight—Provision of ambulances and vehicles for the Sierra Leone Government

Under its Special Operation, WFP provides common ser-vices for the humanitarian community's response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Among these services, WFP provides supply chain support through the United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD).

WFP is supporting the Sierra Leone Government by procuring 74 World Bank-funded vehicles, including ambulances, mortuary vehicles and pickup trucks to enable the Government to scale-up logistical and oper-ational capacity throughout the country. The first batch of 30 vehicles—20 ambulances and 10 mortuary pickup trucks—arrived by air from Dubai to Freetown on 18 October. The remaining 44 vehicles are expected in Freetown in the coming weeks.
