For the present, the Ebola epidemic in West Africa is still going rampant, not only posing a serious threat to the life and health of the people in the sub-region, but also constituting a realistic threat to the public health and security of all countries in the world. It has become a common challenge in the non-conventional security area to the international community.

The Chinese government and people highly commend the relentless efforts made by relevant countries in fighting the epidemic, sharing weal and woe together with the governments and peoples in the affected area. As early as April this year, the Chinese side provided goods and cash aid to the affected countries. This August, in response to the call for emergency relief made by the World Health Organization and the heads of state of Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, the Chinese side took lead in sending emergency relief materials worth of 30 million RMB to the above three countries by charted airplane. China also sent 2 groups of specialists to the affected area to provide guidance and assistance. The Chinese government required the Chinese medical teams positioned in the affected countries to continue their work. For the present, there are 174 Chinese medical workers in total carrying out the epidemic control and prevention work in the affected area.

Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping, whose heart goes to the friends in the affected area, pays high attention to the epidemic situation in West Africa. On September 18th during his visit to India, President Xi Jinping declared that the Chinese government will continue to help African countries fight against the epidemic and will provide a new round of aid valuing 200 million RMB, which is a package of cash, grain and epidemic control and prevention materials. The details are as follows:

· 1 million USD cash, 2 million USD worth of grain and food, a group of specialists for Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea each;

· a granted mobile and a fixed laboratory with corollary testing and security equipment for Sierra Leone;

· 10 million RMB worth of prevention and relief materials for Nigeria;

· 5 million RMB worth of materials for Ghana, Mali, Benin, Guinea Bissau and the Democratic Republic of Congo each;

· 2 million USD respectively for the African Union and the World Health Organization to support their work in guiding and coordinating the fight against the epidemic.

To fight against the Ebola epidemic is not only the obligation of the countries and people in Africa, but also a common duty of the whole world. The Chinese side strongly appeals to the international community, especially developed countries to act quickly and implement tangible measures in a concerted effort to fight against the epidemic. The Chinese side is willing to work with all parties to strengthen the coordination and support people in the affected area to overcome the present difficulty till the dawning of the final success of containing the disease.
