Sierra Leone: WFP West Africa Ebola Response Situation Report #4, 23 September 2014

  • Providing common services and infrastructure support for health partners.

In numbers

To date, in the three most affected countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone:

  • 3,345 mt of food delivered for 180,500 people since April 2014*;
  • 384 responders transported by UNHAS, with 2 planes and 1 helicopter in operation; and
  • Over 510 m3 of medical cargo transported.

Highlights - Sierra Leone

In Sierra Leone, a house-to-house Ebola sensitization campaign was carried out between 19 and 21 September. Before the campaign, WFP provided food for the preparation of hot meals to all treatment and isolation centres in the country. Food has also been distributed to 20,000 vulnerable households in 22 slums around Freetown, as well as to all quarantined households.

During the house-to-house campaign, WFP had 13 mobile response teams pre-positioned throughout the country, delivering up to 5,000 pre-packed individual family rations to quarantined households. For this operation, WFP had pre-positioned 500 mt of food throughout the country
