For the 17th September 2014, a total of 71 new samples were received and analysed by the CDC Kenema Lab and the South African NICD MLU Lab-Western Area. Kenema (4),Kambia (1), Bombali (19), Tonkolili (6), Port Loko (10), Bo (1), Moyamba (9) and Western Area (21).Thirty-six (36) of these samples are positive, 30 are negative while 5 suspected cases have been recommended for a second test base on their symptoms onset.(See table 1)
One previous sample from Kenema district recommended for retest is now negative
One positive sample analysed by the CDC Kenema Lab is not included in table 1 below because of missing district variable.
The 30 cases (22 positive & 8 negative) reported yesterday for Kailahun district have been removed, 2 new samples analysed on the 17/09/14 by the Canadian Lab-Kailahun are not counted in table 1 because of missing district variable.
The cumulative number of Laboratory confirmed cases are 1,585 whiles confirmed death is 489 with a Case Fatality Rate (CFR) based on confirmed cases of 30.9%.
Thirty- seven (37) patients are currently admitted at the Kenema and thirty- seven (37) are currently admitted at Kailahun Isolation Unit with cumulative discharges of 364.
The Red Cross (RC) Ebola case management Unit in Kenema is now functional
