Sierra Leone: Ebola Virus Disease - Situation Report (Sit-Rep) – 15 September, 2014

Main highlights

  • For the 14th September 2014, a total of 72 new samples were received and analysed by the CDC Kenema Lab, the South African NICD MLU Lab-Western Area and the Canadian Lab-Kailahun: Kailahun (1), Kenema (19), Bombali (38), Tonkolili (1) and Western Area (13). Forty-nine (49) of these samples are positive, 19 are negative while 4 suspected cases have been recommended for a second test base on their symptoms onset. (See table 1)

  • One previous sample from Bombali recommended for retest is now negative

  • Seven (7) samples (3) positive & 4 recommended for retest from the CDC Kenema Laboratory are not included in table 1 because of missing district variable

  • The cumulative number of Laboratory confirmed cases are 1, 513 whiles confirmed death is 468 with a Case Fatality Rate (CFR) based on confirmed cases of 30.9%.

  • Fifty-eight (58) confirmed patients are currently admitted at the Kenema and forty-six confirmed patients at Kailahun

  • Isolation Unit with a cumulative discharge of 324

  • DMOs, DSOs & clinicians are reminded to read the comment on the daily Laboratory result for your action
