Sierra Leone: Ebola Virus Disease - Situation Report (Sit-Rep) – 11 September, 2014

Main highlights

  • For the 10th September2014, a total of 50new samples were received and analysed by the CDC Kenema Lab and the South African NICD MLU Western Area Laboratory: Kenema (13), Kambia (1), Tonkolili (1), Port Loko (15), Bo (2), Bonthe (1) and Western Area (17). Twenty-six (26) of these samples are positive, 19 are negative while 5 suspected cases have been recommended for a second test base on their symptoms onset.(See table 1).

  • Two samples (1 negative & 1 recommended for retest by NICD MLU Lab.) were not included in table 1 because of missing district variable.

  • The cumulative number of Laboratory confirmed cases are 1,367 whiles confirmed death is 445 with a Case Fatality Rate (CFR) based on confirmed cases of 32.6%.

  • Sixty one (61) patients are currently admitted at the Kenema and fifty four (54) patients at the Kailahun Isolation Unit with cumulative discharges of 292.

  • MOs, DSOs & clinicians are reminded to read the comment on the daily Laboratory result for your action
