Sierra Leone: Ebola Virus Disease - Situation Report (Sit-Rep) – 10 September, 2014

Main highlights

  • For the 9th September, 2014, a total of 65 new samples were received and analysed by the CDC Kenema Lab and the South African NICD MLU Western Area Laboratory: Kailahun (1), Kenema (15), Kono (5), Bombali (8), Tonkolili (5), Port Loko (5), Bo (1) and Western Area (25). Thirty-six (36) of these samples are positive while 23 are negative; 6 suspected cases have been recommended for a second test base on their symptoms onset. (See table 1)

  • Five (5) previous suspected pending Lab result from Kenema (2), Kono (1), Pujehun (1) & Western Area (1) that were recommended to be retested by CDC Kenema are now all negative.

  • The cumulative number of Laboratory confirmed cases are 1,341 whiles confirmed death is 436 with a Case Fatality Rate (CFR) based on confirmed cases of 32.5%.

  • Seventy Four (74) patients are currently admitted at the Kenema and fifty one(51) Kailahun Isolation Unit with cumulative discharges of 284

  • DMOs, DSOs & clinicians are reminded to read the comment on the daily Laboratory result for your action.
