Sierra Leone: Ebola Virus Disease - Situation Report (Sit-Rep) – 7 September, 2014

Main highlights

  • For the 6th September 2014, a total of 84 new samples were received and analysed by the CDC Kenema & South African NICD MLU Western Area Laboratory: Kenema (11), Kono (4), Koinadugu (2), Bombali (20), Tonkolili (3), Port Loko (16), Bo (3), Moyamba (7) and Western Area (18). Forty-two(42) of these samples are positive, 35 are negative while 7 suspected cases have been recommended for a second test base on their symptoms onset.(See table1)

  • The cumulative number of Laboratory confirmed cases are 1,276 whiles confirmed death is 426 with a Case Fatality Rate (CFR) based on confirmed cases of 33.4%.

  • The increase in cumulative deaths is as a result of the data cleaning going on

  • Sixty-seven (67) patients are currently admitted at the Kenema Isolation Unit with no report received from the Kailahun Isolation unit.

  • Cumulative discharge is still 268

  • DMOs, DSOs & clinicians are reminded to read the comment on the daily Laboratory result for your action

  • Data cleaning is on-going, therefore the figures in table 1 will keep on changing as the cleaning continues
